The delegation from North Macedonia’s National and University Library “St Clement of Ohrid” visited the National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK), opening opportunities for fostering friendship between the two national libraries and for strengthening their cooperation.

The North Macedonia’s national library’s Director Jovica Nikčevski, accompanied by the library’s officials Jovica Tasevski, Zorica Jakovleska Spirovska and Magdica Šambevska made a guided tour of NSK, after which they met with the NSK Director General Dr Ivanka Stričević. Present at the meeting were also the NSK Library Adviser for International Cooperation Jagoda Ille and NSK Senior Public Relations Adviser Ivana Mirošević.

Taking successful cooperation further

The meeting participants discussed the existing Macedonian-Croatian cultural ties and cooperation between the two national libraries so far.

Also, NSK Director General Dr Stričević presented NSK’s mission and its work, particularly pointing out NSK’s multiple roles and the related challenges it faces. She emphasised its latest major undertaking, the Alma/Primo VE digital library platform implementation project, owing to which NSK’s users now have unified access to print and digital material, as well so to electronic resources available both through subscription and in open access.

Sharing experiences as a way to rise to future challenges

Also discussed at the meeting was another of NSK’s recent large projects, focusing on the research into Croatia’s earliest printed books, along with NSK’s response to challenges brought about by the earthquake that hit Zagreb in 2020 and by the COVID-19 pandemic. Greatly interested in the details of these NSK’s experiences, our North Macedonian colleagues expressed readiness to draw on them in their library’s practices.

The visit’s programme concluded with the exchange of gifts, not only as tokens of appreciation and friendship but as symbols of openness on the part of both libraries for maintaining close cooperation in the future.
