14 April 2026, 12.00
The second event of the 2026 Heritage at Hand at CroAtrium programme will spotlight an exceptionally valuable item preserved as part of the NSK Map Collection.
Scheduled for 14 April (12.00, conference hall Judita), the event will feature a lecture in which Professor at the Zadar University’s Department of Geography Lena Mirošević will present the relevance of Catastico delle Publiche Pradarie e Picchetti, a historic 18th-century atlas of Dalmatia and one of major 2025 acquisitions to the NSK Map Collection.
Unique cartographic material from NSK’s treasure trove
Dating from 1756, Catastico delle Publiche… was created as part of the cadastral reform carried out by the Venetian governor Francesco Grimani, for Dalmatian cities Zadar and Knin and their surrounding regions. Wishing to set in order the land under his management in Dalmatia, Grimani undertook an agrarian and administrative reform which resulted in a historical cadastre bearing his name. Apart from a systematic list of individual plots and their users, it also includes the representation of plots, settlements, paths and natural borders. As a unique cadastral record with a register of state-owned land, Catastico delle Publiche… consists of as many as thirty maps.

A close-up view of the most valuable items of Croatia’s national library collection
Following its successful opening with music, our this year’s programme aimed at presenting the most valuable items in Croatia’s national library collection continues with a story of unique cartographic material.
As one of the Library’s four special collections, among its some 42,000 sheet maps and around 2,000 atlases the NSK Map Collection preserves the traces of Croatia’s rich history and the development of its administrative and geographical space throughout centuries. Also, it holds a wealth of cartographic material related to other countries and regions of Europe as well as those of the rest of the world.
