Exhibition and art monograph presentation featuring works by Croatian-Canadian painter Anton Cetín

On 15 September 2026, the National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK) will host a special programme showcasing the works of a Croatian-Canadian painter and printmaker Anton Cetín.

Starting at 12.00 in the Library’s side lobby, the programme will mark Cetín’s 90^th birthday, as part of which he will donate to the NSK Print Collection ten of his drawings.

The programme’s first part will focus on Cetín’s celebratory trilingual art monograph, published this year in Zagreb in symbolic 90 copies and bringing 90 drawings which Cetín created between 2024 and 2026 (Cetin: 90 for 90: drawings: 2024/26). A true bibliophile edition, with texts in Croatian, English and French, the monograph will be presented by art historian, art critic and the author of the monograph’s foreword Branka Hlevnjak.

Anton Cetín was born in 1936 in Bojana, in central Croatia. He graduated from the Zagreb Academy of Fine Arts and after living and working in Paris, in 1968 he moved to Toronto. Since 2019, he has lived and worked in Ottawa, and has so far held 175 solo exhibitions and taken part in more than 200 joint exhibitions all across the world.

In Cetín’s rich artistic output, it is difficult to tell apart the printmaker from the painter. Manifesting a wide array of his artistic abilities, his oeuvre results from a creative force which not only enables the blending of different artistic media, but makes possible their dynamic interaction.
