Books from a donation made to NSK as part of READ JAPAN PROJECT.

On 22 January 2026, the National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK) received a donation of valuable titles revealing the treasures of Japan.

Consisting of 43 books, the donation was made as part of READ JAPAN PROJECT. Focusing on Japan’s international promotion and understanding, the project is run by The Tokyo Foundation and with financial support of The Nippon Foundation, which initiated READ… in 2008.

Having joined with this donation over 1,400 institutions around the world encompassed by the READ… project, NSK will add the donated books to its collections and make them available to its users on open access shelves in its reading rooms on Floors 3 and 4.

Books building closer ties between Croatia and Japan

The NSK Director General Dr Ivanka Stričević was presented with the donated books by His Excellency Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Embassy of Japan to the Republic of Croatia Mitsuhiro Wada, Third Secretary at the Embassy Jun Goto and the Embassy’s staff member Tomislav Mikuljan.

Thanking all who made the donation possible, Ambassador Wada expressed hope that it will generate interest in Japan among Croatian citizens, broaden their understanding of his country and lead to closer ties between Croatia and Japan. NSK Director General Stričević expressed her gratitude for the donation and gave the Embassy’s delegation an overview of the Library’s long history, along with presenting its many international cooperation initiatives.

The members of the Embassy’s delegation visited the NSK Music Collection, where they learned more about a generous donation of audiovisual equipment (amplifiers, cassette decks, loudspeakers, sound mixers, gramophone record players, etc.) which Japan’s government made to the Library in 2004.
