NSK and National Library of Albania sign five-year cooperation agreement

On 22 May 2025, the National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK) and National Library of Albania concluded a five-year cooperation agreement.
With the Director of the National Library of Albania Piro Misha and NSK Director General Dr Ivanka Stričević acting as the signatories, the agreement’s signing was attended by the Deputy Director of Albania’s national library Majlinda Bami, the Croatian National Library Affairs Assistant to NSK Director General Dr Sofija Klarin Zadravec and NSK Library Adviser for International Cooperation Jagoda Ille.
Longstanding cooperation enters new stage
The occasion created the opportunity for the representatives of the two national libraries to discuss the two institutions’ longstanding and effective cooperation, the construction of the Albanian national library’s new building in Tirana, preparations for the marking of the 30th anniversary of the opening of NSK’s current building and other topics relating to the operations, management, plans and development of the two libraries.

The signed agreement is aimed at defining the two libraries’ joined initiatives in various fields of mutual interest, in which context special emphasis has been placed on the exchange of library resources, inter-library loan, staff exchange programmes and LIS-related cooperation. Also, bibliographies-related work, providing access to scientific information, curating special collections as well as exhibition exchanges and the organisation of joint projects have been singled out as areas of particular interest for both institutions.
Albanian cultural heritage in Croatian libraries
As part of the signing’s accompanying programme, the representatives of the Albanian national library made a tour of NSK, learning more about the Croatian national library’s history and the services it provides. During their visit to the NSK Manuscripts and Old Books Collection, they were presented with NSK’s holdings related to Albania’s cultural heritage.

Also, Mr Misha and Ms Bami visited Croatia’s Central Library for Albanians, which operates as part of the Zagreb City Libraries public library network.
