NSK and National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina sign cooperation agreement

Acting Director of the National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina Adisa Žero and NSK Director General Dr Ivanka Stričević.

On 14 October 2025, the National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK) and National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina concluded a five-year cooperation agreement.

With the Acting Director of the National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina Adisa Žero and NSK Director General Dr Ivanka Stričević acting as the signatories, the agreement’s signing was attended by the head of the Bosnia and Herzegovina’s national library’s periodicals and official publications department Anja Mastilović, NSK Library Adviser for International Cooperation Jagoda Ille and NSK Senior Public Relations Adviser Ivana Mirošević.

Cooperation aimed at further efforts to gear library services to the requests of modern users

The agreement’s signing provided the opportunity for discussing the two institutions’ longstanding cooperation, in which context the challenges arising from the need to bring library services and activities into line with the requests of modern users and new ways of learning were given special emphasis. Taking the examples of current best practices in the European national libraries, the meeting participants analysed the adjustments libraries are making to provide support for group learning by offering up-to-date digital learning facilities which enable distance learning and joining online meetings, workshops and conferences. Through such innovative practices, library users are increasingly becoming aware that apart from providing space and conditions for traditional forms of research and individual study, libraries are also spaces for a dynamic exchange of information and lively group work.

The basis for future joint initiatives

Focusing on the libraries’ shared areas of activity, the agreement’s provisions relate to the exchange of library resources, inter-library loan, academic mobility, compilation of bibliographies, collection development, digitisation, organisation of exhibitions and joint projects.

As part of the signing’s accompanying programme, the representatives of the Bosnia and Herzegovina’s national and university library made a tour of NSK, learning more about the Croatian national library’s history and the services it provides.

Also, Director General Stričević presented to the colleagues from Bosnia and Herzegovina Incunabula Croatica, NSK’s latest monograph issued as a result of a major publishing project and decades of extensive research into Croatia’s earliest printed books and their relevance in the context of European cultural heritage.
