On 2 July 2025, the National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK) hosted another special get-together and exhibition commemorating Miroslav Krle\u017ea (1893-1981)<\/a>, one of the most distinguished, world-famous Croatian writers and thinkers of all time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Held as part of the 14th<\/sup> Miroslav Krle\u017ea Festival<\/a>, which is taking place by 7 July 2025<\/a>, the programme once more brought together the leading authorities on Krle\u017ea and included the exhibition of Krle\u017ea\u2019s manuscripts which NSK preserves as part of its Manuscripts and Rare Books Collection<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NSK \u2013 a proud partner of the Miroslav Krle\u017ea Festival<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In her introductory address, the NSK Assistant Director General for National Library Affairs Dr Sofija Klarin Zadravec emphasised Krle\u017ea\u2019s greatness as the leading 20th<\/sup>-century Croatian author and thinker and the tremendous honour as well as responsibility that the Library has with regard to Krle\u017ea\u2019s explicit wish to make NSK the guardian of his manuscript heritage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A particularly interesting part of the programme, in which the Festival\u2019s Director Goran Matovi\u0107, Head of the NSK Manuscripts and Rare Books Collection<\/a> Dr Irena Gali\u0107 Be\u0161ker, Professor Lada \u010cale Feldman from the Zagreb <\/a>Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences<\/a> and Dr Suzana Marjani\u0107 from the Zagreb Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Research<\/a> analysed Krle\u017ea\u2019s work in relation to the exhibited manuscripts, was an account of Krle\u017ea\u2019s journey to Russia given by Pavle Bon\u010da, from The Miroslav Krle\u017ea Institute of Lexicography<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This part of Krle\u017ea\u2019s biography being the focus of this year\u2019s Festival owing to the centenary of the publication of his travelogue Journey to Russia<\/a><\/em>, it prompted the travelogue\u2019s staging at the Zagreb Academy of Fine Arts<\/a> which was held as the Festival\u2019s opening event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Far from being a formal part of the Festival, this year\u2019s edition of the Library\u2019s programme was a continuation of a dialogue with an immensely significant author whose work today represents the light of hope and is a symbol of resistance in the face of major global threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
