On 22 May 2025, the National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK) and National Library of Albania<\/a> concluded a five-year cooperation agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the Director of the National Library of Albania Piro Misha and NSK Director General Professor Ivanka Stri\u010devi\u0107 acting as the signatories, the agreement\u2019s signing was attended by the Deputy Director of Albania\u2019s national library Majlinda Bami, the Croatian National Library Affairs Assistant to NSK Director General Dr Sofija Klarin Zadravec and NSK Library Adviser for International Cooperation Jagoda Ille.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Longstanding cooperation enters new stage<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The occasion created the opportunity for the representatives of the two national libraries to discuss the two institutions\u2019 longstanding and effective cooperation, the construction of the Albanian national library\u2019s new building in Tirana, preparations for the marking of the 30th<\/sup> anniversary of the opening of NSK\u2019s current building and other topics relating to the operations, management, plans and development of the two libraries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The signed agreement is aimed at defining the two libraries\u2019 joined initiatives in various fields of mutual interest, in which context special emphasis has been placed on the exchange of library resources, inter-library loan<\/a>, staff exchange programmes and LIS-related cooperation. Also, bibliographies<\/a>-related work, providing access to scientific information<\/a>, curating special collections as well as exhibition exchanges and the organisation of joint projects have been singled out as areas of particular interest for both institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Albanian cultural heritage in Croatian libraries<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As part of the signing\u2019s accompanying programme, the representatives of the Albanian national library made a tour of NSK<\/a>, learning more about the Croatian national library\u2019s history<\/a> and the services<\/a> it provides. During their visit to the NSK Manuscripts and Rare Books Collection<\/a>, they were presented with NSK\u2019s holdings related to Albania\u2019s cultural heritage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
