By 12 November 2024, the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in the Swiss Confederation<\/a> will be hosting Marko Maruli\u0107 \u2013 A European humanist<\/em>, the exhibition of the National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK) spotlighting the international cultural and literary legacy of\u00a0Marko Maruli\u0107 (1450-1524)<\/a>, \u201cthe father of Croatian literature\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition opening, held on 25 October, started with the address by the <\/a>Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Croatia in the Swiss Confederation Dr Andrea Beki\u0107, who emphasised Maruli\u0107\u2019s significance for European literature and his role as a pioneer in Croatian literature as the author of the first epic written and printed in the Croatian language (Judita<\/a><\/em>, 1521).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The NSK International Cooperation Adviser Jagoda Ille also gave a presentation focusing on Maruli\u0107 as a widely recognised European humanist and talked about NSK\u2019s cooperation in this context with MARVLIANVM<\/a>, a Split-based research centre focusing on Maruli\u0107\u2019s heritage, and the Croatian Ministry of Culture and Media<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maruli\u0107\u2019s presence in Switzerland<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Particularly valuable was a presentation by the Head of the Special Collections Department of the Solothurn Central Library<\/a> Dr Ian David Holt, who, drawing on his research into the editions of Maruli\u0107\u2019s works held by the Solothurn library, provided the present visitors with the insight into the reception with which Maruli\u0107\u2019s works met in Switzerland during the 16th<\/sup> and 17th<\/sup> centuries, as well as into Maruli\u0107\u2019s presence and influence in Switzerland throughout history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
