On 21 March 2024, the National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK) hosted the opening of an art exhibition featuring works by 24 distinguished Croatian artists inspired by St Jerome<\/a>, a native and patron of Dalmatia<\/a> and one of the most prominent figures of Croatia\u2019s and Europe\u2019s cultural heritage as the author of the Vulgate<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Organised by Split-Dalmatia County<\/a>, with the University of Split<\/a> acting as the co-organiser, and remaining on view in the Library\u2019s side lobby by 4 April 2024, the exhibition spotlights artwork created as part of the art colony held as a way of marking the 30th<\/sup> anniversary of the County\u2019s founding. Offering a unique opportunity for seeing this prominent historical and cultural figure \u2013 as well as the patron of the Croatian Glagolitic tradition<\/a> and librarians \u2013 through the eyes of contemporary artists, the exhibition draws attention to the importance of safeguarding his heritage, which greatly affected Croatia\u2019s cultural history through the impact it had on the Croatian greats such as Juraj \u0160i\u017egori\u0107, Marko Maruli\u0107<\/a>, Petar Zorani\u0107 and Matija Vla\u010di\u0107 Ilirik<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The programme of the exhibition\u2019s opening included addresses by the NSK Director General Professor Ivanka Stri\u010devi\u0107, Emeritus Professor Josip Belamari\u0107, from the Croatian Institute of Art History, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Split Professor Dragan Ljuti\u0107, Prefect of Split-Dalmatia County Bla\u017eenko Boban and Croatian Minister of Culture and Media Dr Nina Obuljen Kor\u017einek, who opened the exhibition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
