The 2026 edition of Heritage at Hand at CroAtrium<\/a><\/em>, a special programme of the National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK) spotlighting the treasures of Croatia\u2019s largest library collection<\/a>, is opening soon!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The programme\u2019s first event, presenting the holdings of the NSK Music Collection<\/a>, will be held on 5 March 2026 in the Library\u2019s side lobby, starting at 13.00.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Celebrating the legacy of prominent figures of Croatia\u2019s 20th<\/sup>-century classical music<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Symbolically organised on the anniversary of the death of the first Croatian female composer Dora Peja\u010devi\u0107, the event will feature a lecture and mini concert highlighting Peja\u010devi\u0107\u2019s oeuvre as well as the legacy of Croatia\u2019s first professional musicologist Bo\u017eidar \u0160irola.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his lecture, musicologist Domagoj Mari\u0107, who is also the author of a comprehensive monograph on Peja\u010devi\u0107\u2019s life and work<\/a>, will talk about the challenges that he faces in researching music collections and their importance for understanding both music and its creators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the lecture, mezzosoprano Sofija Cingula and pianist Ivan Bato\u0161 will give a performance of two compositions that \u0160irola set to verses by Croatian poet Dragutin Domjani\u0107 and of Peja\u010devi\u0107\u2019s piece set to Liebeslied<\/em>, a poem by Reiner Maria Rilke.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participation in the programme is free of charge and no registration is needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NSK\u2019s successful presentation of Croatica goes on<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Always searching for new ways to bring closer to as wide a range of audiences as possible the invaluable heritage of Croatica<\/a>, Croatia\u2019s national library collection under our care, last year we launched the Heritage at Hand<\/em> programme. The participants in the programme\u2019s events held so far had a unique opportunity for first-hand encounters with some of the gems in our four special collections, the most valuable part of the Library\u2019s holdings<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through this year\u2019s rich programme of lectures, exhibitions, presentations, get-togethers and a Heritage at Hand<\/em> international symposium, we will continue to bring to the attention of various audiences the wealth of Croatian cultural heritage that we curate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apart from music and cartographic material, in cooperation with heritage experts from the University of Zadar<\/a>, University of Rijeka<\/a>, the Zagreb Academy of Fine Arts<\/a>, the Croatian Language and Linguistics Institute<\/a> and with artists we will also showcase visual poetry, expose a Sherlock Holmes in disguise and bring from the fringes into the spotlight the nearly or entirely unknown Croatian translations of the Bible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
