“Heritage at Hand at CroAtrium” #5: “Art between the covers: Book as a work of art”

The fifth edition of Heritage at Hand at CroAtrium, the 2025 programme of the National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK) promoting and popularising the Croatian national library collection, will be held on 29 October 2025, as part of this year’s Croatian Book Month programme. Spotlighting books created as works of art, mainly visual art, the programme will feature a lecture by Professor at the Zagreb Academy of Fine Arts Tanja Dabo, who will present the specific characteristics of artists’ books and other forms of art books.

On 25 September 2025, the National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK) presented Incunabula Croatica, its monograph documenting the findings of decades of extensive research into Croatia’s earliest printed books and their relevance in the context of European cultural heritage. Issued as part of a major publishing project supported by the Croatian Ministry of Culture and Media and the Adris Foundation, the monograph was prepared as a result of the Library’s cooperation with a large number of institutions, many of them religious. On 3 October 2025 (14.00, Conference Hall Judita), the National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK) will host a concert marking the centenary of the birth of the Croatian composer, violinist, violist and music educator Miroslav Miletić (1925-2018). Organised as the fourth edition of Heritage at Hand at CroAtrium, the concert will commemorate Miletić’s legacy in the context of Croatia’s musical heritage as well as his contribution to the promotion of Croatian composers worldwide through his work as the founder and leader of a notable string quartet Pro Arte Zagreb, with which he performed in thousands of concerts all across the globe. On 2 July 2025, the National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK) hosted another special get-together and exhibition commemorating Miroslav Krleža (1893-1981), one of the most distinguished, world-famous Croatian writers and thinkers of all time. Held as part of the 14th Miroslav Krleža Festival, which is taking place by 7 July 2025, the programme once more brought together the leading authorities on Krleža and included the exhibition of Krleža’s manuscripts which NSK preserves as part of its Manuscripts and Rare Books Collection.
