The significance of the Croatian Homeland War and its place in the history of the Croatian people is reflected in the number and diversity of national and foreign resources thematising this period which are held by NSK, the National and University Library in Zagreb, as part of one of its reading rooms collections.

Titles from the NSK Homeland War Collection.

The Homeland War Collection of the National and University Library in Zagreb was established in 2008, by the Decision of the NSK Expert Committee.

The Collection offers access to a wide range of resources addressing the Croatian Homeland War from the perspective of different fields and areas – such as history, political science, military science, law and other – and from different points of view, including those presented in foreign publications.

Assembling all relevant material on this topic, the Collection offers as detailed and multidisciplinary as possible insight into this highly complex subject. Continuously developed on such principles, it gives a comprehensive overview of all research conducted in this context so far and provides valuable resources for future research into the Croatian Homeland War.

The Collection’s activities include presentations of new publications on this topic, the organisation of thematic book exhibitions and a permanent exhibition spotlighting the Collection’s latest accessions.

Apart from books, serial publications, ephemera, audiovisual content, sound recordings and other valuable material, the Collection’s resources include more than 3,500 digitised Croatian and foreign newspaper articles dating from 1991 and 1992, of which some are available on the NSK Digital Collections website and all may be accessed at the Library’s Periodicals Reading Room.
