“The Digital Maturity of Libraries”: NSK holds its 2024 Systems Librarianship Conference

On 13 December 2024, the National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK) hosted Systems Librarianship 2024, its 8th open conference for the users of the NSK and Croatian Academic and Research Libraries Integrated Library System.
Organised with the support of the Croatian Ministry of Culture and Media, the conference once again brought together information professionals and librarians from all types of libraries and for the first time included a special seminar focusing on e-Universities, a major project as part of which NSK has been assigned the demanding task of enabling the digital transformation of Croatian academic and research libraries.



e-Universities, a project aimed at digitising Croatia’s higher education system
Following the opening addresses by the NSK Director General Dr Ivanka Stričević, Head of the Archive and Library Activity Office at the Croatian Ministry of Culture and Media Dr Ivona Despot and Director of the Directorate for Higher Education at the Croatian Ministry of Science, Education and Youth Dijana Mandić, Dr Stričević and Director Mandić presented the copies of the cooperation agreements which NSK signed with the libraries of six Croatian universities and two research institutes as part of its activities in the e-Universities project.

At the forefront of the digital transformation of Croatian libraries
The conference, whose hybrid programme attracted over 100 participants from Croatia and abroad, featured presentations in which professionals from Croatia, the UK, Italy and Germany discussed various issues which they deal with as professionals and shared their experiences in this context. The debated topics included cyber-security and cyber-attack experiences, as well as the participants’ libraries’ experiences with introducing cloud-based library services.

The NSK Systems Librarianship Conference focuses on issues related to the development and implementation of information systems and the digital transformation of libraries and heritage institutions. It places particular emphasis on the significance of adopting interdisciplinary approach with regard to the development of information systems, knowledge management and information systems implementation in heritage institutions. The conference is equally intended for librarians and LIS and ICT researchers, as well as for specialists in the field of computer science, and other scientific fields.
