“The Digital Maturity of Libraries”: Call for abstracts for 2024, 8th open conference for users of NSK Integrated Library System

On 13 December 2024, the National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK) will host Systems Librarianship 2024, the 8th open conference for the users of the NSK and Croatian Academic and Research Libraries Integrated Library System. Organised with the support of the Croatian Ministry of Culture and Media and offering free registration, the conference aims to bring together information professionals and librarians from all types of libraries, regardless of the integrated library system used or implemented level of automation.

The Systems Librarians conference focuses on issues related to the development and implementation of information systems and the digital transformation of libraries and heritage institutions. It places particular emphasis on the significance of adopting interdisciplinary approach with regard to the development of information systems, knowledge management and information systems implementation in heritage institutions. The conference is equally intended for librarians and LIS and ICT researchers, as well as for specialists in the field of computer science, and other scientific fields.

This year’s conference theme, The Digital Maturity of Libraries, addresses issues related to the digital transformation of the heritage sector and the related issue of digital readiness, the impact in this context of the rise of artificial intelligence, development of new concepts in library technology, development of information standards and knowledge processing formats, linked data, development of metadata standards and ontologies, development and implementation of semantic infrastructure, open data and data reuse.

Abstract submission guidelines

The abstracts should relate to the following sub-themes:

– digital transformation, digitally mature learning environment, artificial intelligence, new concepts in library technology, cloud-based library services platforms, information discovery services and data discoverability, digital repositories, API, RFID,

– the development of bibliographic formats, metadata translation and metadata crossover, conversion, metadata schemes, development and implementation of ontologies, BIBFRAME,

– linking, exchange, sharing and reuse of heritage data: data literacy, big data, research data, linked data, open data, digital analysis, data visualisation, machine learning, cooperation in the field of digital humanities, 

– systems librarianship, embedded librarianship, augmented and virtual reality (AR & VR), Internet of things (IoT), blockchain technology, Web3.

Proposals may be sent for 15-minute oral presentations, 25-minute presentations focusing on specific programmes and services, 60-minute workshops, and 5-minute poster presentations, abstracts for which have to be composed according to a structured proposal template (Croatian text only) and submitted online until 25 November 2024.

All presentations and other conference materials will be available open access or under the CC BY 3.0 HR license and be included in the NSK Systems Librarianship 2024 Conference Proceedings.
