“Superlibrarians”: Croatian Book Month 2025 closes with its quiz awards ceremony
The National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK) once again hosted the awards ceremony of the national online quiz taking place every year as part of the Croatian Book Month, Croatia’s annual national programme supported by the Croatian Ministry of Culture and Media and successfully spotlighting books and reading for the last thirty years.
In her welcome address, the Head of the NSK User Services Department Dorja Mučnjak greeted on behalf of the NSK Director General all present at the ceremony, thanking the Zagreb City Libraries public library network for successfully organising yet another Month, in which the quiz is one of the central programmes.

The pupils, their teachers and parents, along with the librarians, publishers and translators attending the ceremony, also heard addresses by the Head of the Croatian Centre for Children’s Books and the quiz’s coordinator Isabella Mauro, Director of the Zagreb City Libraries and Head of the Month’s Programme and Organising Committee Dr Sunčica Ostoić, Envoy of the Croatian Minister of Culture and Media Maja Zrnčić and reference assistant at the Subotica City Library Bernadica Ivanković.

Librarians, the stars of the 2025 Croatian Book Month
Organised through Croatia’s network of public and school libraries, the quiz traditionally targeted pupils in the final years of primary school. In addition to having a crucial role in the successful coordination of every edition of the quiz, as well as of the entire programme of every Month, librarians were also the stars of the latest quiz’s content. Entitled Superlibrarians, it featured three titles by Croatian authors who are also librarians – Iva Dužić, Josip Sršen and Sebastijan Čamagajevac, and Melita Rundek.

Also, the ceremony included an inspiring musical performance by the Zagreb City Libraries band.

In the central part of the programme, full of suspense, we finally met the quiz’s superreaders, whose faces lit with joy and excitement reminded all the programme attendees of the importance of constantly providing the younger generations with opportunities to develop the love of reading. Among altogether 16 winners of this year’s quiz, the winner of the first prize was Mia Lončar, from the Josip Broz primary school in Kumrovec.
