On 22 January 2026, the National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK) received a donation of valuable titles revealing the treasures of Japan. Consisting of 43 books, the donation was made as part of READ JAPAN PROJECT. The gems of Croatia’s cultural heritage preserved in the collections of the National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK) and featured as part of In the Beginning Was the Kingdom, a major exhibition commemorating 1,100 years of the Kingdom of Croatia, were presented in greater detail through a special exhibition programme. Opening hours over Christmas and New Year holidays

24 December 2025 – 6 January 2026

In the period between 24 December 2025 and 6 January 2026, the National and University Library in Zagreb will be providing its services under the following limited operating regime: on Wednesday, 24 December 2025, the National and University Library in Zagreb will close at 16.00; on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, from 25 to 27 December 2025, the Library will be closed, and will reopen on Monday, 29 December 2025, resuming its regular opening hours during the rest of the holiday period, except for Wednesday, 31 December 2025, when the Library will close at 16.00, and Thursday, 1 January, and Tuesday, 6 January 2026, when the Library will again be closed. NSK among major Croatian research institutions to set up the Croatian Diamond Open Access Centre

In December 2025, a cooperation agreement enabling the setting up of the Croatian Diamond Open Access Centre was signed, with the National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK) as one of the signatories. Initiated by OPERAS-HR, the Croatian branch of OPERAS, a research infrastructure supporting open scholarly communication in social sciences and humanities in the European Research Area (ERA), the agreement’s signing is part of the efforts coordinated by the European Diamond Capacity Hub (EDCH) to expand and strengthen the Diamond OA community in Europe. On 5 December 2025, Pope Leo XIV received from the Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković a copy of Incunabula Croatica, a 2025 monograph of the National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK) spotlighting Croatia’s earliest printed books.
