NSK professionals receive prestigious 2024 Croatian library awards

At this year’s, 49th edition of the Croatian Library Association Assembly, the National Library Affairs Assistant to the NSK Director General Dr Sofija Klarin Zadravec and member of the NSK team focusing on citizen science Dolores Mumelaš are among the winners of Croatia’s highest library awards.
The Association has awarded the 2024 Eva Verona Award (Nagrada Eva Verona), bearing the name of the internationally recognised 20th-century Croatian librarian and researcher and presented to young librarians and the Association’s members for their outstanding commitment, innovativeness and contribution with regard to the promotion of the library profession, to Dolores Mumelaš, a member of the NSK team running programmes and activities focusing on citizen science, and four other distinguished young professionals from libraries from across Croatia.

The National Library Affairs Assistant to the NSK Director General Dr Sofija Klarin Zadravec, along with four other longstanding Croatian library professionals, received The Kukuljević Charter (Kukuljevićeva povelja), named after the prominent 19th-century Croatian historian, writer and the author of the first Croatian bibliography Ivan Kukuljević Sakcinski and awarded to the members of the Association for their years-long work and significant accomplishments throughout their successful library career in the advancement of librarianship.

The presentations, workshops and panel discussions at this year’s Assembly’s programme are addressing current issues such as artificial intelligence, multiculturalism, green transition and environmental awareness, and the related challenges that libraries are facing in their efforts to bring their activities, programmes and services in line with these issues and produce an efficient response in this context today and in the future.
On 13 November, the Assembly hosted the meeting of the Association’s members and the members of the Management of Library Associations Section of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA MLAS). Also, during the parts of the programme held so far, the Assembly participants had the opportunity to her presentations by lecturers from the US, Sweden and Austria.
The co-organisers of the Assembly, taking place in Opatija by 16 November 2024 under the auspices of the Croatian Ministry of Culture and Media, are the Rijeka Library Association, Rijeka University Library, Rijeka City Library and the “Viktor Car Emin” Public Library in Opatija.
