The Director General of NSK, the National and University Library in Zagreb, Professor Ivanka Stričević took part in the latest meeting of the Executive Committee of the Conference of European National Librarians (CENL), hosted by the Austrian National Library on 14 and 15 October 2024.

In her second consecutive term as a member of the CENL Executive Committee, NSK Director General Professor Stričević met with other Committee’s members to analyse the Conference activities. Apart from examining the reports on the projects currently funded by the Conference, the meeting participants discussed the upcoming CENL projects and defined themes which will be the focus of the 39th CENL Annual General Meeting, scheduled to take place between 15 and 17 June 2025 at the National Library of Scotland.

Also, the programme of the meeting included the assessment of the results of CENL’s survey into strategies for mitigating risks that national libraries are facing as well as debates on the impact on libraries of the rising social phenomena and rapidly developing technologies, such as artificial intelligence.

CENL, which brings together 46 European national libraries and regularly meets to keep its activities up to date with the developments in the European national library sector, aims to strengthen the cooperation between Europe’s national libraries, promote their activities and valuable cultural heritage preserved in their collections and spotlight their vital role in responding to crises brought about by global social developments.
