Nearly 500 adventure seekers mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of Croatia’s six-time nominee for the Nobel Prize Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić

On 19 April 2024, the National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK) hosted an escape room event which it jointly organised with the Fox in a Box company to mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić (1874-1938), the author of the iconic works of Croatian children’s literature and a six-time nominee for the Nobel Prize for Literature.
Solving puzzles, almost 500 participants in this exciting game had the opportunity to find out many interesting details about the life of this great Croatian writer and delve into the fascinating world of her fairy tales. Through this one-of-a-kind programme, the participants also got to experience the largest Croatian library in a completely new way and learn that some of the first editions of Brlić-Mažuranić’s works are preserved as part of the Library’s collections.

The great interest that the programme awakened, the large turnout it attracted and its participants’ enthusiastic feedback only prove that these types of programmes are ideal for drawing the attention of the public to libraries and for presenting library collections, space and services to different audiences.
