“Memories of a nation”: NSK exhibition celebrating 30 years since Croatia’s Operation Storm military offensive
From 28 July to 18 August 2025, the National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK) will put on Memories of a nation: 30 years since Operation Storm, an exhibition marking the 30th anniversary of Operation Storm (VRO Oluja), the key military offensive of the 1991-1995 Croatian Homeland War and the turning point in Croatia’s struggle for freedom and independence.
By featuring selected items from the NSK collections, in particular the Library’s Homeland War Collection, the exhibition visitors will be given a unique insight into the glorious 84 hours which at the beginning of August 1995 led to the liberation of almost a fifth of Croatia’s territory.
Testimonies of a fascinating military operation in books, newspapers, videos and memorabilia
Apart from historical, military, political and social analyses as well as testimonials of Storm’s participants in the selected book titles from the NSK Homeland War Collection, the exhibition will also feature newspaper material documenting the impact and efficiency of this historic military operation.

A particularly valuable part of the exhibited material will be a wide array of memorabilia from private collections providing an intimate perspective on this turbulent period of contemporary Croatian history. Also, footage from the archive of the Croatian Radio Television will help revive the events surrounding Operation Storm and the intense emotions it entailed.
