60th Zagreb International Folklore Festival exhibition of photographs by Vido Bagur

From 14 to 28 July 2026, the National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK) will be hosting an exhibition showcasing the work of a prominent Croatian folklore researcher Vido Bagur documenting four decades of his collaboration with the Zagreb International Folklore Festival. Organised as part of the lead-up to the Festival’s 60th edition, which will be taking place in Zagreb from 15 to 19 July, the exhibition will feature a selection of Bagur’s photographs of the Festival’s participants, atmosphere and most memorable moments.

The National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK) is presenting Marin Getaldić – 400 years later (Marin Getaldić – 400 godina poslije), an exhibition spotlighting the legacy of Croatia’s greatest mathematician and physicist at the turn of the 17th century. The fifth event of the 2026 edition of Heritage at Hand at CroAtrium, the programme of the National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK) promoting Croatia’s national library collection, spotlighted the publications in which Sherlock Holmes’s Croatian impostor hid for decades. In her lecture, Professor at the Department of English Studies of the University of Rijeka’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Antonija Primorac presented the research as part of which she “caught” the fraudulent hero and its findings.

Latest acquisition to NSK Foreign Croatica Collection spotlighting legacy of Croats in South Africa

Members of the Croatian diaspora in South Africa Mary Anne Sinovich and Elena Anne Bielich donated to the National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK) a comprehensive monograph documenting generations-long legacy of South African Croats. Soon to be available to NSK’s users as part of the NSK Foreign Croatica Collection, the monograph is a valuable addition to almost 12,000 titles which the Collection currently holds. Entitled The Life, Times and Legacy of Our Grandparents, it offers insight into the contribution of Croats to their local communities, their efforts to preserve their Croatian identity and close ties with their ancestors’ homeland.

NSK opening hours – Croatian Statehood Day (30 May) and Feast of Corpus Christi (4 June)

29 May – 4 June 2026

On Friday, 29 May 2026, the National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK) will not be providing its extended hours services and will close at 21.00. Remaining closed on Saturday, 30 May 2026, for the Croatian Statehood Day, the Library will reopen on Monday, 1 June 2026, resuming its regular opening hours until Thursday, 4 June 2026, when it will be closed for the Feast of Corpus Christi. From Friday, 5 June 2026, the Library will be providing its services as usual.

Exhibition spotlighting the legacy of Marin Getaldić, Croatian mathematician ahead of his time

From 11 to 26 June 2026, the National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK) will be showing Marin Getaldić – 400 years later (Marin Getaldić – 400 godina poslije), an exhibition dedicated to Croatia’s greatest mathematician and physicist and the pride of Dubrovnik. Prepared in consideration of the fact that while Getaldić’s name is widely known among the Croatian public, the exact extent of his contribution to science is still insufficiently recognised, the exhibition will feature the original copies of the great scholar’s works preserved in NSK’s collections.
