Happy Europe Day!: NSK European Documentation Centre marks six years of activity

Dolores Mumelaš, NSK European Documentation Centre.

Since 1985, the celebration of Europe Day has promoted peace and unity in Europe, commemorating the historic Shuman Declaration, which ushered in the creation of the European Union.

The European Documentation Centre operating as part of the National and University Library in Zagreb (EDC NSK), established in 2018, is one of Croatia’s main points of access to information on the European Union, making available the Union’s publications and official documents.

Everything there is to know about the European Union

Useful in terms of providing information related to the work of the European Union, its parliament and council, the Centre’s resources are also helpful in learning everything from how to get a job within the EU and what are one’s air passenger rights in case of flight cancellation when travelling by plane in the EU to what are the EU’s food safety and food quality policies and other similar information.

Busy in promoting EU’s work, programmes and initiatives

During six years of its activity, the Centre’s staff dealt with around 400 queries and organised events and online publications presentations marking several editions of the European Week of Sport as well as the European Patients’ Rights Day, European Day for Victims of Crime and other EU programmes.

Spotlighting climate neutrality as the EU’s top priority, EDC NSK marked the 2023 Europe Day by organising a special event as part of the Library’s Green Library for Green Croatia programme aimed at bringing The European Green Deal to the attention of its users and the general public.

With the preparation of another online publications presentation currently under way in the year of the European Parliament elections, the Centre continues to provide its services and make widely available information on the European Union and related resources.
