NSK waving late return charges as part of celebrating National and University Library in Zagreb Day 2026

18 – 21 February 2026

As part of the activities ushering in the celebration of the 2026 National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK) Day, the Library will be waiving all late return charges from 18 to 21 February. Overdue titles may be returned where they were issued – at the loan desk on the Library’s Ground Floor or in the reading rooms on Floors 3 and 4. Our Doors Open Days traditionally announce the celebration of the National and University Library in Zagreb Day and we dedicated their this year’s edition to great anniversaries spotlighting historic events and the related cultural artefacts in our collections.

The National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK) and the Zagreb Library Association (ZKD) have launched BioBlitz and libraries, a green libraries programme bringing together the general public and researchers for the purpose of promoting the vital importance of the preservation of biodiversity. By organising the programme, NSK’s User Services Department and the ZKD Citizen Science Working Group (GZUK) intend to mobilise Croatian libraries in organising BioBlitz events – intensive field studies aimed at collecting data over a period ranging from several hours to an entire month on the species inhabiting parks, gardens and forests in on near their communities. NSK receives book donation as part of READ JAPAN PROJECT

On 22 January 2026, the National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK) received a donation of valuable titles revealing the treasures of Japan. Consisting of 43 books, the donation was made as part of READ JAPAN PROJECT. The gems of Croatia’s cultural heritage preserved in the collections of the National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK) and featured as part of In the Beginning Was the Kingdom, a major exhibition commemorating 1,100 years of the Kingdom of Croatia, were presented in greater detail through a special exhibition programme.
